Sustainability labels that are not based on a certification system or have not been established by government bodies are prohibited.
Environmental claims must fulfil specific criteria, i.e. be linked to clear, objective, publicly visible and verifiable obligations.
Product comparisons related to environmental or social characteristics provided to the consumer via a service require the indication of the comparison method and the measures taken to keep the information up to date.
Goods are to be assigned a reparability value. Harmonised requirements are being prepared for this purpose.
The following is also being prepared:
- harmonised notification of the legal guarantee
- harmonised labelling of the commercial guarantee of durability
Directive (EU) 2024/825 amending Directives 2005/29/EC and 2011/83/EU
By 27 March 2026, Member States shall adopt and publish the measures necessary to comply with this Directive.
They shall apply those measures from 27 September 2026.
