Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 has created a basis for the gradual introduction of ecodesign requirements for as many products as possible.
An initial work plan is to be adopted by 19 April 2025.
The legislation is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of market surveillance and customs controls.
In particular, bans on the destruction of unsold consumer goods are to be imposed and performance and information requirements defined.
An initial ban on clothing and clothing accessories, including hairnets and shoes, will come into effect on 19 July 2026.
A digital product passport register is in preparation and should be created by 19 July 2026.
Information obligations of economic operators in distance selling will be specifically extended.
