In October 2023, the industry presented monitoring data which showed that the previous maximum residue levels in spices should be amended (raised) again.
A special meeting of the Standing Committee on Pesticide Residues was held on 12 October 2023.
The EFSA statement on health safety was also considered in order to rule out a risk to consumers in the event of an increase.
The proposed amendment was adopted and published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 6 February 2024.
Regulation (EU) 2024/451 enters into force on 26 February 2024 and is valid from that date.
